Kerry. Where are you? Iâll come pick you up. This is Jericho.
He didnât get an answer for a few long minutes. Jericho called for the car and wished like hell heâd brought one of his own.
Iâm home.
My place?
No. Home.
Can I have an address? Iâll come get you.
The phone buzzed again with an address. Jericho gave the address to the driver as soon as he slid into the backseat, and spent the drive to Kerryâs place in silence. He felt kind of bad, to be honest. He wasnât really all that good at apologizing, though. And he was still pissed at Kerry for leaving the premiere. It was his job to stay. And Jericho had kind of liked knowing he was there waiting in the background. Whatever sense that made.
Kerryâs apartment building wasnât anything special. Kind of crappy. Jericho was less than impressed. He texted Kerry again and asked if he wanted him to come up or if he was going to come down. Kerry said heâd be down in a minute. Jericho didnât know if it was possible to read tone from a text, but he sure as hell didnât seem enthused to be hearing from Jericho. Or getting in a car with him.
When he came down, he wasnât wearing the gorgeous tailored suit anymore, but instead an old pair of sweats that hung off his hips and round little butt, and a thin T-shirt. He had on flip-flops and glasses, and Jericho wanted to eat him. He remembered kissing him earlier, the sweet shock, and the way Kerry melted into his touch. He⦠wanted to do it again. No act necessary. Which wasnât exactly the best idea in the world.
âWhat?â Kerry said.
âYou getting in the car?â He noticed Kerry had his wallet and keys, so he had to expect to go back with Jericho.
âYeah. Fine.â Kerry slid in. He didnât say anything else to Jericho, though, just looked out the window.
âIâm sorry I ditched you in there,â Jericho said. âYou didnât have to leave, you know. I was trying to find you.â
âWhen you texted? I was already home by then.â
âWhyâd you leave?â Jericho asked. âYou were supposed to stay. People will have noticed that Iâm gone.â He knew he sounded snappy. It wasnât easy for him to let go of his irritation, even if heâd been partly to blame.
âShe called me a whore, Jericho. She said youâd get tired of me and go back to women, which is fine. I donât really care about that, but she called me a whore. I couldnât stay there anymore.â
Jericho didnât know what made him do it, but he reached out and pulled Kerry into a hug.
âIâm sorry,â he whispered. âI think Iâve really misjudged you, and no matter what, you didnât deserve that.â
âYou think?â Kerry asked. He snorted, but it sounded more like he was trying to get rid of tears than show actual sarcasm.
âYeah. I think.â Jericho felt a hard, guilty pit in his stomach. He thought he was savvier than that, better at judging people and dealing with them accordingly.
